Take the day off
(see sample email)
Dear {insert supervisor’s name},
As an Asian American / [ally in solidarity with Asian Americans], I am shaken and disturbed by the nearly 4,000 anti-Asian hate crimes reported since the beginning of the pandemic.
[OPTIONAL: Moreover, I am saddened by the inadequate action and attention on this even after a horrific massacre.]
That’s why this Friday, March 26th, I have decided to join tens of thousands of others across the country and take the day off from work to #StandWithAsians. The day will be filled with free Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) education and programming online to process our trauma and grieve, rally on actions and next steps, and strengthen our hurting families and community.
I encourage further conversation with you about why standing up for the AAPI Community this Friday is important to me. More information about this movement can found here: https://www.standwithasians.com/
[OPTIONAL, adjust as comfortable with: If possible, I’d love your support to take this day off as a mental health or sick day – as I and millions of AAPI, are indeed sickened and distressed by these terrifying events. If not, I will be taking this day off from my own time.]
Thank you for your support in this matter. I hope you join me to #StopAsianHate, for the betterment of our country and community. Following this day, I would love to share with you our learnings and actions that this company can take to protect and support its AAPI employees and community.
Best regards,

Hi - wanted to let you know about a movement taking place this Friday. On March 26, join me and thousands of AAPI across the country in taking the day off from work to peacefully protest the attacks against our community and inadequate attention and action from society. While they may not care about us as only 5% of the population, we CAN make our impact felt as 27% of the corporate workforce. There will be some awesome programming on Clubhouse, YouTube and Instagram Live with AAPI speakers and BIPOC allies. It will be a time to share, heal, refresh and rally on meaningful actions to protect our families and community. Learn more here:
